If I answer the door to them I just stand there looking at them, completely unresponsive, and see how long it takes them to wind down and leave. Well, this used to be the case. I now live in a modern marvel (well, "marvel" may be a stretch)--a gated, guarded community. Nobody comes to my door. Nobody leaflets my house. If I don't leave word at the gate, nobody gets in to see me. Yeah, there's a downside, homeownder's association rules (one of them has to do with the required depth of mulch in my non-grass areas of lawn). I consider the freedom from strangers to be worth it.
