“San Antone” - oh yeah, you hear that alot here in Tejas. Probably leftover from Bob Wills days.

When my dad played dominoes years ago, he would often use the phrase (with appropriate hoo-boy shout) : “Going downtown, boys, going downtown.” Or when he was playing cards, I could always count on hearing the phrase, “Come to Papa”.

Those are just the ones I can share that aren’t shrouded in blue smoke.

Did I do well in Vegas? You are a dreamer aren’t you Janie. The chess was not bad, about what I expected considering how infrequently I play over the board these days. And I would have been okay with the gambling, but I was sitting next to a couple of losers who thought I was the Federal Reserve Bank. I love moments like the one in the elevator, and retelling it here makes the memory even more permanent. You’re right Winston, now when someone says well, goodnight Agnes there is another pleasant moment it recalls for us all. “San Antone,” hmm I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one, but I suppose it’s the way it’s used more than the actual words, I like it.

Well , goodnight Agnes, wasn’t that just somethin’ else how the woman knew exactly what you were talking about! If I ever find myself in the company of a Pauline-like woman, I’ll know exactly what to say..

My father’s phrase for such circumstances is “San Antone!”
